Start with a written plan
Ask for a written treatment plan that sets out the proposed care and its cost. Keep a copy so you can refer back to what was discussed, rather than relying on a headline price.
Make the options clear
Ask which treatments are NHS and which are private, where relevant. If an alternative is offered, ask the dentist to explain how the treatment and cost differ.
Know what a change means
If the plan needs to change, ask for the updated cost and an explanation before agreeing to further treatment. A question about money is a reasonable part of a conversation about your care.
